Ford F-150 Towing Capacity

Complete towing capacity specs for the Ford F-150, broken down by year and trim. Every number comes from Ford's official towing guides.

The F-150 has been America's best-selling truck for over four decades, and for towing it offers the widest powertrain range of any pickup on the market. Five engine options span from the 2.7L EcoBoost V6 at 8,200 lbs to the 3.5L EcoBoost V6 at up to 14,000 lbs, plus a PowerBoost hybrid and the all-electric Lightning. No other truck gives you this many ways to configure towing capacity.

Ford organizes F-150 towing capacity by powertrain and drivetrain rather than trim name. An XLT with the 3.5L EcoBoost tows the same as a Platinum with the 3.5L EcoBoost. That means the engine and axle ratio you choose matter far more than the badge on the tailgate. This is different from Toyota and Ram, where trim names correlate more directly with towing numbers.

One important note about our F-150 data: Ford's towing guides do not include payload or curb weight figures. Those numbers come from the window sticker of each individual truck because options, cab size, and bed length change the weight. If you need payload figures for a specific F-150, check the yellow and white tire placard on the driver's door jamb.
