The 2025 Ram 1500 marks a generational shift with the new 3.0L inline-six twin-turbo engine replacing both the HEMI V8 and the Pentastar V6. The Hurricane engine comes in two tunes: a standard version producing 420 hp and a High Output (H/O) version at 540 hp. This is the most significant powertrain change in the Ram 1500's recent history.
The Tradesman with the standard 3.0L twin-turbo leads towing at 11,550 lbs in RWD and 11,480 lbs in 4WD. These numbers are close to but slightly below the 2024 HEMI's 12,750/11,340 figures. The V6 with eTorque mild hybrid returns as the entry powertrain at 7,680-8,110 lbs, competitive with the outgoing Pentastar V6.
The Limited and Rebel use the High Output tune at 9,920 and 9,340 lbs respectively. Their lower towing numbers compared to the Tradesman reflect heavier curb weights from luxury and off-road equipment. The pattern is the same as the F-150: the work-oriented trims out-tow the premium trims because they weigh less. If maximum towing matters more than interior appointments, the Tradesman remains the configuration to buy.
