The 2023 Sequoia is the first year of the third-generation redesign, replacing the truck that had been on the market since 2008. Everything is new: the twin-turbo hybrid powertrain, the body, the interior, and a coil-spring rear suspension that replaced the old leaf springs for a dramatically better ride. Every 2023 Sequoia is a hybrid with the 3.4L twin-turbo V6 and i-FORCE MAX electric motor.

Seven configurations span the lineup, from the SR5 in RWD at 9,520 lbs down to the Capstone at 8,980 lbs. The SR5 RWD is the clear towing leader thanks to its lighter curb weight of 5,620 lbs. Adding four-wheel drive drops the SR5 to 9,120 lbs as the heavier drivetrain hardware adds over 400 lbs to the truck.

Payload ranges from 1,730 lbs on the SR5 RWD to 1,375 lbs on the Capstone, a meaningful difference if you are carrying a full load of passengers and cargo while towing. With three rows of seats, the Sequoia can realistically carry six adults and still tow, but the payload math gets tight at the upper trims. Plan your load carefully and account for passenger weight against the payload rating.
